2016 – 2017 Board Initiatives
BRUU’s Board Initiatives, 2016-17
BRUU’s Board of Directors has been pursuing an ambitious program of activity, not only for itself but for the congregation as a whole. The Board kicked off the church year with a Board retreat in August. It has drafted and gotten congregational comment on a covenant for the congregation, and presented it at a Town Hall meeting in October.
In the field of governance, the Board is working to implement the lessons of “Governance and Ministry,” second edition, which it read together last church year. It is working on separating the duties of Treasurer and bookkeeper. It is in the process of obtaining BRUU’s first audit. It is continuing the process of updating its Personnel Manual, which it began to rewrite last year.
In the field of congregational safety, the Board is working on a safety policy and is planning a fire drill. The Board already has a disruptive persons policy.
In the field of religious education, BRUU’s full-time DRE has a commitment to Renaissance Modules and the DRE credentialing process. She is active in LREDA and has been through the interim training. Our youth are apparently feeling empowered, because five of them have recently become members of BRUU.
The Board has gotten a Chalice Lighters’ grant for work on the roof, walls, and other parts of the building. A retired member of the church has taken on the title of Facilities Manager to formalize what he was already doing. A small church is renting our sanctuary on Sunday evenings and the space on the second floor of our commercial building, next door, so our rental income is nearly maximized.
